"Art For Animals” Community Exhibit & EventJune 2-14, 2019
in partnership with Spencer’s Run and benefitting NCPD K-9 Program
This June, New Canaan’s Carriage Barn Arts Center in Waveny Park will be the setting of a community-wide exhibit of artwork and poetry that celebrates the bonds between people and animals.  Artists and individuals of all skill levels and ages are encouraged to participate by showcasing artwork or poetry that reflects their love for animals — from majestic wildlife to woodland creatures to beloved family pets.  All work will be included in a community exhibit at the Carriage Barn Arts Center from June 2-14.
Organized in partnership with Waveny’s Spencer’s Run dog park, Art For Animals will raise funds for the New Canaan Police Department’s K-9 program.  Officer David Rivera says “New Canaan’s K-9 unit depends solely on donations to operate, so K9 Apollo and I are grateful to be beneficiaries of this program.  This is a great opportunity to celebrate animals and raise awareness for how our K-9 unit benefits the community.”

Animal-themed painting, drawing, photography, digital art and sculpture will be exhibited, along with poetry.  Artists may submit work that will be for sale, and prizes will be awarded for youth (16 & under) and adults in various categories.  There is a $20 participation fee to exhibit a piece of art or poetry and registration is online at www.carriagebarn.org/animals.  Work should be framed or mounted and ready to hang, and delivered to the Carriage Barn in late May (date/time TBD).

To kick-off the exhibit, Spencer’s Run and the Carriage Barn Arts Center will host a celebratory event in Waveny Park on Sunday June 2 from 2-4pm (rain date June 9).  There will be an online auction for a number of animal-themed artwork, items and experiences.  Funds raised through submission fees, art sales and the auction will benefit the NCPD, as well as the Carriage Barn Arts Center.  Contact the Carriage Barn Arts Center at 203-594-3638 with questions or to get involved as a volunteer or sponsor.

VERY LITTLE TIME: Get Ready For A Huge Rent Increase On Your Yonkers Apartment, If Yonkers’ Senate Majority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins Doesn’t Act Fast…….

Protecting tenants should be a priority, Senate Majority Leader Andrea Stewart Cousins, as state regulations governing rent in Yonkers is set to expire at the end of June
TENANTS IN TROUBLE: Will Senate Majority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins Protect Yonkers Tenants As State Regulations Governing Rent Are Set To Expire In June
ALBANY: Yonkers lawmakers Senator Shelley Mayer and Assemblymen J Gary Pretlow and Nader Sayegh are going to have to join with Majority leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins in the state capital in protecting and extending rent regulations in the coming weeks of the legislative sessions.
Yonkers community activists are calling on the city’s delegation to Albany to eliminate loopholes that make it easier for landlords to raise rents on tenants who are often at the mercy of their landlords.
Low Income renters in Yonkers say its time to ending the so-called vacancy bonus, which lets landlords raise an apartment’s rent as much as 20% when a tenant leaves.
Local tenants’ rights groups have been skeptical about lawmakers’ vows to address the issue, as real estate lobbyists are seen as one of the more influential groups in Albany.
Real estate lobbyists are already running ads on Westchester County media seeking to overturn tenant protection laws.
Democrats now control both the Assembly and the state Senate and Governor Forbes Irvine Andrew Cuomo said he supports reforms, which bodes well for renters.
Gov. Andrew Cuomo said on a public radio station today that in previous years there was a “reluctance to deal with the details of how these laws actually worked.
“And we now have three months to focus just on these laws because we got so much done in the budget,” Andrew Cuomo while being interviewed on WNYC
